Hello everyone,
Just a quick update this morning:
Hops!
The hop harvest this year looks to
be below average by yield, as the unseasonable heat/dry we
experienced in the UK was felt in the other major hop growing
regions. This was corroborated by the yields in our little hop
yard, as it was down from previous years. However, we did have
enough Fuggles and Goldings to make a Fresh Hopped
version of our OHB. The hops were hand picked whilst the brew
was being mashed and added directly to the kettle. Added this
way, we needed to add nearly 10 times as many hops and adjust
the Gravity of the brew to account for the water content in the
fresh hop cones. One of the best brew days I've had this year!
Beer On
If you are tempted by the unique
spin on the original OHB, The Retreat in Reading has the Fresh
Hopped OHB as part of their Cider and Harvest Ale festival
this weekend:

The Hobgoblin in Reading also has 2 firkins of Henley Gold that should be going on this week. You will also get a second chance to try the Fresh Hopped OHB at some point in the next couple weeks.
The 2006 Oxford Beer Festival is on
the 12th-14th of October http://oxfordcamra.org.uk/festival2006.php where
you can sample Henley Gold.
Email
I've been getting some very valuable feedback from those of you on the email list, all appreciated. Please don't hesitate to drop me an email or give me a call.
All the best,
Jeff
