| Gold Reserve rated Best in the World! | ||
| Beers of the World magazine recently announced the winners of this year's World Beer Awards. We entered two beers and both of them came home with some hardware! Lovibonds Gold Reserve was judged Worlds Best Honey Beer, beating world class brewers such as Samuel Adams and Fullers for the 2009 title. We were also Highly Commended (Silver) for Henley Dark in the Smoked Beer category. |

| Open Brew Day - The Hops are Ready! | ||
| After extensive
scientific testing (we squeezed, rubbed and smelled them) we
have determined that the hops in our Beer Garden are
ready to be harvested and sacrificed to the Brew
Gods. This Saturday (Sept. 5) we'll be brewing this year's Fresh Hopped IPA, and we need help picking those cones! The day will start at 11:00 with the bines being cut and cones weighed in order to determine the grain bill required to balance the bitterness. We will then proceed to chuck in as many cones as physically possible. Come and join us and smell for yourself what these hops contribute to our beer. If you mention this newsletter you get your first glass of Amber with a fresh hop cone in it, free of charge. I know there are some of you that know of a cache of 'wild' hops in the Henley area. If you bring in a bine of hops to be added to the brew, you drink for free all day. |

We will be having one of the world's best beer writers in town
as part of the
Henley Literary Festival.
Pete Brown has now written
3 books on the topic of beer and he will be doing a reading and
book signing from his latest book, Hops and Glory, where Pete
digs deep into the role of the British in India and the history
and role of India Pale Ale (IPA). This is all told as he
attempts a historic sea voyage from Burton-on-Trent to Kolkatta
with a keg of authentic IPA (not some 3.6% imitation) in his
luggage. Pete is tentatively scheduled to be at our place at 14:00 on Saturday, October 3rd. Please come out and support him. If you are even remotely interested in beer and its impact on our society, you must read his books...our 2009 Fresh Hopped IPA mentioned above will be tapped by Pete prior to his reading. |
