Lovibonds Brewery Officially Opened by Boris Johnson November 23, 2007 A buzzing crowd welcomed special guest Boris Johnson last Friday to the official opening of Lovibonds Brewery in Henley-on-Thames. Guests were treated to a lunch of Lovibonds beer and hot chili made using their Bavarian style wheat beer, Henley Gold.
Jason Stevenson, Boris Johnson, Jeff Rosenmeier, Keith Batchelor* Boris Johnson, Henley MP, addressed the packed building prior to cutting the ribbon by saying, ‘The last time I was in a brewery in Henley, I was trying desperately to save it from closure. It is with great pleasure to be back in a Henley brewery again and to be part of the history being created here today.’ Founder and Head Brewer at Lovibonds, Jeff Rosenmeier said, ‘I’d like to thank all of our friends and customers that came to show their support, they created a truly electric atmosphere.’ Jeff, who describes his venture as a ‘hobby gone mad’, named his brewery Lovibonds after receiving inspiration from an old bottle found in the original John Lovibonds and Son’s site in the centre of Henley. Lovibonds have recently moved their operations to this site where the launch party took place. Other attendees included Andrew and Caroline Lovibond, both descendants of the family that started John Lovibond and Sons brewery in the early 1800’s. Henley’s mayor, Terry Buckett, also joined in the celebration. * Picture courtesy of Keith Ellis |
