On Saturday the people of
Henley-on-Thames welcomed their Olympic heroes back from Beijing.
Henley is home to Leander Club, the most successful rowing club in the
world and their rowers didn’t fail to disappoint this year. Of the 15
Leander rowers taking part in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 13 came home
with medals.
With pure blue sky, the
celebrations in Henley included a row past, an open top bus tour and a
civic reception with local school children. The bus then returned to
Leander for a reception where the members, rowers and their families
were treated to cold pints of Henley Gold, a wheat beer brewed by
Henley’s Lovibonds Brewery. |

Founder and Head Brewer at
Lovibonds, Jeff Rosenmeier said, “These guys and girls got a spectacular
welcome back to the home of rowing today and they deserved the best pint
possible. The Champions and all the rowers here at Leander continue to
inspire us to make Henley Gold with the same passion and dedication that
they bring to their craft.” |
